Repetition of Courses; Re-Examination; Additional Coursework
A grade of 60 to 67 is a failing grade in a course and normally requires repetition of the course for receipt of academic credit. If, in the professional opinion of the faculty member involved, successful performance on a re-examination in the course will provide the student with a sufficient level of competence, the student will be granted the option of re-examination. Re-examination in the course may be postponed until the next regularly scheduled examination in that course, or a special re-examination may be scheduled by the professor at the professor's option. In the event of a special re-examination, there can be no anonymity in the grading process.
The faculty may decide that a student with a grade of 68 to 74 in a course needs to repeat that course or take a specified elective or group of electives to ensure a sufficient foundation for competence. A student with a pattern of grades in the 68 to 74 range may be required at the discretion of the faculty to repeat an entire semester or academic year in order to ensure competence in core courses. In the event the faculty decides that repetition of courses is necessary, the student will be notified in advance and will be entitled to be heard before the faculty on the matter.
Readmission Following Withdrawal or Exclusion
Any student who withdraws or is excluded from full-time study for any reason will be eligible to return only upon vote of the faculty following petition for readmission by the student. Prior to voting, the faculty will consider the same factors considered in making initial admission decisions, plus factors revealed by the student's career in law school.
