The LSCRRC is a non-partisan organization dedicated to keeping the student body aware of the modern civil rights movement, by facilitating debate and discussion outside the classroom. In order to accomplish these goals, LSCRRC holds on-campus lectures and other events, including First Monday, a nationwide celebration on the opening day of the Supreme Court's session.

LSCRRC at Campbell has been recognized as the most active chapter in the nation. Annually, the Council produces the John J. Broderick Symposium to increase public awareness of current civil rights issues. Past symposia have addressed such topics as:

  • The plight of the migrant farm workers
  • The death penalty
  • The right to privacy
  • Apartheid
  • AIDS
  • Legalization of drugs

LSCRRC also makes its members available to do legal research for organizations needing help with civil rights cases. The chapter has written amicus briefs for pending cases in the United States Supreme Court.
