JEAN M. CARY, Professor of Law, graduated magna cum laude from Duke University in 1971 and received her J.D. degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 1975. Prior to teaching at Campbell, she worked for a small personal injury and real estate law firm in Durham, North Carolina. From 1982 to 1986, she was the supervisor of the Civil Clinic at the University of North Carolina School of Law where she was lead counsel on several major federal court class actions. She also supervised students on landlord-tenant and consumer cases. She started litigating in 1975 as a Reginald Heber Smith Fellow with a legal services office in Charlotte, North Carolina. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Professor Cary is the Director of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy Southeast Deposition Program. She is a frequent teacher in NITA programs across the country. In 2001, NITA honored Professor Cary with the Honorable Prentice Marshall Faculty Award for her many years of outstanding advocacy teaching. Professor Cary taught as a visiting professor at Duke University Law School in 1999 and again in 2000. She teaches Trial Advocacy, Pretrial Litigation, Family Law, and Family Law Planning.
