NC Court of Appeals Hears Arguments at Campbell Law
Law Students Learn from Real-world Court Proceedings
BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Three members of the North Carolina Court of Appeals returned home to their alma mater, Campbell Law School, on Thursday, October 30 to hold a special session of court on the Law School's campus. Judges John Tyson (member of charter class, 1979), Ann Marie Calabria (1983) and Donna Stroud (1988) heard two criminal arguments in the Jefferson-Pilot Courtroom, which was filled with over 50 students, faculty and members of the legal community.
The first argument heard was regarding a drug-related offense and the second, the satellite-monitoring of a convicted sex offender. Once out of session, the courtroom turned into a classroom, with the judges welcoming questions from the law students in attendance.
Thursday's event marked the first time a panel of judges from the N.C. Court of Appeals who are all graduates of Campbell Law School have held court on the Campbell University campus.
"This was truly a historic event for the law school," noted Campbell Law School Dean Melissa Essary. "Not only were we proud to host our distinguished alumni on campus, we were able to afford our students the opportunity to learn from a real-world court proceeding. I extend my sincerest gratitude to Judges Tyson, Calabria and Stroud."
