BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Brian Rogers, director of development for the Jesse Helms Center, addressed students on the topic of “Principle vs. Preference” on Mar. 18 at Campbell University Law School. The event was sponsored by the Campbell Law Republicans.
“It’s good to be back at the creek,” said Rogers, who was raised in Buies Creek. “I’ve always been proud of Campbell Law School.”
In fact, Rogers was introduced to Jesse Helms during one of Helms’ visits to Campbell and since has spent much time with him. In speaking on principals, Rogers used the life of Helms’ as an illustration to why living what you believe is so important.
“This is a testament to what he was about,” he said.
“If you stand firm on your principles, and be true to your inner core,” Rogers said. “You’ll do well.”
“Be honest, show humility and stand firm on what you believe,” he added. “It takes guts, but people will respect you.”
Rogers joined the Jesse Helms Center staff in 2004. Prior to joining the Helms Center, he was Executive Director of Defenders of Property Rights. He has worked for various conservative organizations such as The Leadership Institute and The Free Congress Foundation. His main responsibilities at the Helms Center include donor relations and major gifts and he oversees all direct mail and planned giving programs. He is a graduate of Wingate University.
The event lasted from noon to 1 p.m. Pizza and drinks were provided.
