Class of '84 Law graduate provides first major gift to campaign for Raleigh

John C. Bruffey, Jr., Partner in the firm of Drew Eckl & Farnham, LLP, Atlanta, has made the first major commitment to the School of Law’s Campaign for Raleigh with a pledge of $250,000.  Bruffey is a member of the Campbell School of Law Class of 1984.  He received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Commenting on his commitment, Bruffey said, “It is with pride and humility that I give back to a school that prepared me well to practice law.  The move to Raleigh will open up so many doors for Campbell Law, and I am delighted to serve on the Campaign Cabinet.  I would not trade my degree from Campbell for one from any other law school in the country.”

“This is certainly a wonderful way to start our campaign,” said Frank B. Holding, Jr., Chairman of the School of Law’s Campaign for Raleigh and President of First Citizens Bank.  “We are thrilled to include John as a member of the Campaign Cabinet, and I believe his thoughtful investment will be an outstanding model for others.”

“John Bruffey has set a high standard for members of our Campaign Cabinet and School of Law alumni,” said Melissa A. Essary, Dean of the School of Law.  “Not only is this a generous gift to start the campaign, but it’s also the largest contribution to Campbell Law from one of our graduates.  We are honored indeed.”

About the Campaign for Raleigh:
The Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University, boasting more than three decades of excellence in legal education, is relocating to Raleigh, North Carolina, the hub of the region’s substantive legal work, policy development, and legal decisions.

The Campaign for Raleigh seeks to secure $27.5 million to fully cover expenses associated with the acquisition and renovation of the School’s new home at 225 Hillsborough Street in downtown Raleigh.  Current plans call for opening the new facility by the start of the 2009-2010 academic year.

With a faculty to student ratio of 16:1, Campbell Law is small by choice and offers accessible faculty who are committed to teaching, mentoring, and serving as professional role models for students.Since its founding in 1976, the School of Law has received two national awards from the American Bar Association (ABA) for having the nation’s best Trial Advocacy Program and Professionalism Program.  Members of the Class of 2007 led all law schools in the state with a 95% passage rate on the July 2007 NC Bar Exam.  Campbell Law boasts more than 2,900 alumni, including 1,900 who reside and work in North Carolina.
