German law school models Campbell curriculum

When the law faculty at Wismar University in Wismar, Germany, wanted to develop courses to teach lawyers how to practice law, as well as how to think like a lawyer, they came to Buies Creek. Or rather, they brought Buies Creek to Wismar.

Campbell law graduate bitten by travel bug

Over the past several months, Campbell law graduate, Melissa Walker, has been settling into her studies in England at the University of London, Queen Mary, where she is pursing a Master of Law (LLM) degree, but her interest in travel began long before that. As a Campbell law student, she had a wonderful experience participating in the international Moot Arbitration held annually in Vienna, Austria, and Walker met future husband Wes Walker on a study abroad trip to London as an undergraduate. So when she decided to work on a master's degree in international commercial law, it seemed only natural to go abroad again.

30 Years of Campbell Law

Over the past three decades, Campbell University's Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law has set outstanding records in moot court and trial competitions and passage of the state bar exam, but other records are not as tangible. Mel Wright, executive director of the Chief Justice's Commission on Professionalism, described what being a Campbell lawyer really means at the opening convocation celebrating the law school's 30th anniversary recently.

Campbell law school ranked second in state on bar exam passage

Campbell University's Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law ranked second in the state, just two percentage points behind Wake Forest University and ahead of the University of North Carolina and Duke University, in passage of the state bar exam. In the July 2005 results recently released, the law school's passage rate was 19 percentage points higher than the national average.

Wiggins named "Outstanding Educator" by the Association of Southern Baptist Colleges and Schools
August 23, 2005
Bob Agee, executive director of the Association of Southern Baptist Colleges and Schools (ASBCS), presented the Charles D. Johnson Outstanding Educator Award to Campbell Chancellor Norman A. Wiggins. Wiggins was honored at the annual faculty orientation worship service where Agee delivered the devotional on the theological framework of Christian higher education. “This is the most prestigious award given to a Baptist educator,” said Agee. “It isn't even given out annually, but is awarded to a person who has made outstanding contributions to Christian education.”

Campbell University law dean announces his retirement
August 11, 2005
Willis P. Whichard has announced that he will retire as dean of Campbell University's Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law, effective at the conclusion of the 2005-2006 academic year. Whichard came to Campbell in 1999 after a distinguished career as a North Carolina Supreme Court justice, attorney and state legislator.
