Professor Lee cited in Wachovia-Wells Fargo-Citigroup merger coverage

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Kevin Lee, Professor of Law at Campbell University, was one of several legal experts cited in recent articles published by the Charlotte Observer related to the contentious merger between Wachovia, Wells Fargo and/or Citigroup.

One Sept. 29 Wachovia agreed to a $1.9 billion buyout by Citigroup, but changed course on Oct. 3 when Wells Fargo made a $15 billion offer to acquire the troubled bank. The fight intensified on Oct. 4 when Wachovia asked a U.S. federal court judge to declare its merger with San Francisco-based Wells Fargo valid despite an earlier agreement with Citigroup

In comments made to the to the Charlotte Observer for an Oct. 5 story, Prof. Lee said he didn't expect Citi's complaint to be successful in the long run, because the Wachovia-Wells deal doesn't show sufficient irreparable harm. He said there should be a way to compensate Citi monetarily, though.

In addition to Prof. Lee, faculty from the law schools at the University of Richmond and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill were also quoted.

Prof. Lee joined the Campbell Law School faculty in 2007. He is a widely published legal scholar and teaches contracts, business associations, professional responsibility, jurisprudence, and comparative law of China international business transactions.
