Sam is a 1980 graduate of the Campbell University School of Law. He is also a graduate of Wofford College.

Sam served as the managing member of Clawson & Staubes, LLC for the past 27 years. He is active in the tort defense of individuals, partnerships and corporations. He has given numerous CLE's and presentations to the South Carolina Bar and across the country on various issues, such as summary jury trials, direct and cross examination of lay witnesses, opening and closing statements, and trial tactics.

As a certified mediator, Sam has an interest in alternative dispute resolution. He was a pioneer in the development of binding summary jury trials as an alternative to binding arbitrations, and lectures frequently on the topic.
