Chief Justice Sarah Parker earned her undergraduate degree at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and received her law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law in 1969.

Parker has been Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of North Carolina since February 1, 2006. She previously served as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court and also sat on the North Carolina Court of Appeals.

Chief Justice Parker has been an active member of several boards and organizations, including the NC Bar Association, American Bar Association, Wake County Bar Association, and the Mecklenburg County Bar Association. She has also been the recipient of many awards, including the Gwyneth B. Davis Public Service Award, Distinguished Women of North Carolina Award, and Judge of the Year.
