Dr. Peter J. Morris

Executive Director
Urban Ministries of Wake County

Dr. Peter Morris is a practicing pediatrician and preventive medicine specialist. He is Executive Director of Urban Ministries of Wake County, an interfaith non-profit organization that collaborates with volunteers, staff, clients and community to advocate and serve families affected by poverty through programs in hunger, homelessness, and healthcare.

As an epidemiologist and public health professional Dr. Morris was Medical Director of Wake County Human Services in Raleigh, N.C. for over 25 years where his duties included Deputy Director and Division Director for Maternal and Child Health, Clinic Services, Family and Youth Success, Adult Services and Behavioral Health.

Dr. Morris practices community health. If primary care uses the tools of medical science to diagnose and treat illness with medications and therapies; and public health uses the tools of epidemiology and prevention to improve the health of communities with vaccination, prevention, and public policy; then community health uses community engagement, intervention and advocacy to improve health and well-being.
