  • Devin L. Honbarger has joined Cranfill Sumner LLP’s Raleigh office as a civil litigation associate attorney. 
  • Guess & Co. Corp. has named Erin L. Basinger to serve as senior executive vice president and chief counsel officer.
  • Justin Lockett has joined Smith Anderson, the largest law firm headquartered in the Triangle, as a litigation attorney.
  • Landin Johnston has joined the firm’s Raleigh office as an associate attorney. She focuses her practice in the Administrative, Regulatory, and Government Law and the White Collar, Government Investigation, and Special Matters Practice Groups.

  • Halee A. Morris has been appointed to theMed North Board of Directors. She currently practices civil litigation at Rountree Losee.

  • S. Wesley Tripp III has joined the Board Counsel for the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.

Class of 2017

  • Audrey Snyder and Gabriel Snyder of Ward Black Law in Greensboro were named among the Best Lawyers 2023 Ones to Watch. 
  • Jacob M. Morse started his term as president of the Board of Directors of the Young Lawyers Division of the Wake County Bar Association On Jan. 1, 2023.
  • Audrey Snyder of Ward Black Law in Greensboro has been elected as the new Chair of the Women’s Caucus for the North Carolina Advocates for Justice.
  • Gabriel Snyder of Ward Black Law in Greensboro has been elected as the new Chair of Auto Torts and Premises Liability Section for the North Carolina Advocates for Justice.
  • Landon Van Winkle, associate with Smith Debnam, has been appointed as vice chair of the webinars & podcasts subcommittee of the business bankruptcy committee within the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section.

  • We are saddened to share the passing of James McLuckie of Raleigh, N.C. in 2023.
  • Adam Elkins ‘16 was elected to N.C. Superior Court Judge District 28 Seat 1.

Class of 2015

  • Nathalie Doran has been named a partner at WRSD, formerly known as Wilson, Reives & Silverman, making her the first woman partner at the 45-year-old law firm.
  • Taylor Scruggs-Smith, who works for Whitaker & Hammer, was featured in Marquis “Who’s Who” as an Emerging Leader.
  • MaryJane Richardson of Lumberton as a public member appointed by Gov. Roy Cooper to the North Carolina Marriage and Family Therapy Licensure Board. Richardson is an Assistant District Attorney in Robeson County for Prosecutorial District 20.
  • Terry Brown Jr. ‘15 was re-elected to the N.C. House of Representatives District 92.
  • The Honorable Yohan Namkung ‘15 was re-elected to N.C. District Court Judge District 29 Seat 5.

Class of 2014

  • Jasmine Davis joins Wood Smith Henning Berman’s Orlando (FL) office as a Senior Associate. Her practice areas include complex construction and 
  • Jordan Smith has been appointed County Attorney of Pitt County’s legal department in Greenville, N.C.
  • Megan E. Morgan has been appointed as county attorney for Currituck County. 
  • J. Alex Pully has been appointed by Gov. Roy Cooper to serve as a District Court Judge in Judicial District 3B, serving Carteret, Craven and Pamlico counties.catastrophic injury as well as handling products liability, premises and hospitality matters. 
  • The Honorable James “Alex” Pulley ‘14 was re-elected to N.C. District Court Judge District 4 Seat 5.

Class of 2013

  • Jeffrey M. Kelly was elected a partner at Nelson Mullins based in the Raleigh, N.C., office and was named among the Triangle Business Journal’s “40 Under 40.”
  • Anna Hedgepeth was promoted to Cranfill Sumner’s first Chief Strategy Officer as of January 2024.  She was  honored with Cranfill Sumner LLP’s 2022 Core Value Awards and named among Triangle Business Journal’s “40 Under 40.”
  • Amish Patel was elected a partner at Williams Mullen based in the Raleigh, N.C., office.  
  • Eleanor Redhage Gilroy of Cranfill Sumner LLP has been listed in the 2024 Super Lawyers and Rising Stars List as well as listed among the “Ones to Watch” by Best Lawyers.
  • Charles Hicks has been named a partner in Cranfill Sumner LLP.  He practices in the Workers’ Compensation Practice Group and is based in the firm’s Raleigh Office. He was also listed among the “Ones to Watch” by Best Lawyers.
  • Jenifer Wolfe has joined Young Moore as a member of the firm’s business and estate planning team.
  • George Burnette, Jr. of First Citizens Wealth Management has been selected to Triangle Business Journal’s 2024 40 Under 40 list.
  • Paul Yokabitus opened Cary Estate Planning in 2018 and has received an award for being among the fastest-growing law firms through the Law Firm 500 awards. He has been selected to Triangle Business Journal’s 2024 “40 Under 40” list.
  • Eleanor Gilroy has been promoted to the position of Of Counsel at Cranfill Sumner LLP in the firm’s Raleigh office. She was named among the Best Lawyers 2023 Ones to Watch.
  • Charles Hicks, a construction law and worker’s compensation law attorney for Cranfill Sumner LLP (Raleigh), was named among the Best Lawyers 2023 Ones to Watch and named among the Best Lawyers® 2025 Ones to Watch.
  • Eleanor Gilroy, Commercial Litigation from Cranfill Sumner LLP (Raleigh) were recently named among the Best Lawyers® 2025 Ones to Watch.

Class of 2012

  • Dominic Totman has received an AV® Rating from Martindale-Hubbell. Totman joined Cranfill Sumner in September 2023 and  is Of Counsel in the firm’s Raleigh office.
  • Benjamin Van Steinburgh has joined the firm of Roberts & Stevens, P.A. as an associate attorney where he will practice medical malpractice and insurance defense.
  • Michael Crook of Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP has been selected to Triangle Business Journal’s 2024 40 Under 40 list.
  • Judge C. Ashley Gore has been appointed Superior Court Judge in Judicial District 13A, serving Bladen and Columbus counties, by Gov. Roy Cooper and was elected to N.C. Superior Court Judge District 15 A Seat 1 in November 2024.
  • The Honorable Robert Gilmore ‘12 was re-elected to N.C. District Court Judge District 5 Seat 5.

Class of 2011

  • Amy Navejas was named Executive Director of the North Carolina Down Syndrome Alliance (NCDSA) by the NCDSA Board of Directors effective November 13, 2023.  
  • David Caraker was sworn in as a 15th Judicial Court Judge in South Carolina on June 14, 2024.
  • Jillian “Jill” Pope ‘11 was elected to N.C. District Court Judge District 12 Seat 5

Class of 2010

  • Brian Humphrey has been Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and was named among the 2021 Texas Super Lawyers.

Class of 2009

  • Ruth A. Levy was elected a partner at Williams Mullen based in the Columbia, SC office.  
  • D. Bowen “Bo” Heath, a partner at McGuireWoods and director of McGuireWoods Consulting’s North Carolina government relations group, was a recipient of the 2022 Triangle Business Journal 40–Under-40 Award.
  • Christian H. Staples has been appointed Chair of the Retail & Consumer Business Sector at Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP.

Class of 2008

  • Mica Nguyen Worthy, a partner in the Cranfill Sumner LLP Charlotte office, has been named chair of the firm’s Aviation Law Practice Group. She has submitted a claim to NASA to recover for her clients’ damages resulting from a spaced debris incident.  This is a precedent-setting case that could set the standard for the future of space debris claims in both the public and private sectors, according to a press release from the firm. She was awarded the 2024 Distinguished Leader in Diversity and Inclusion Award by the firm and she has been listed in the 2024 Super Lawyers and Rising Stars List.
  • Kris Hilscher is now a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.  He is a partner at Sullivan and Hilscher Family Law.
  • John “Brian” Ratledge has been re-elected to serve as a District Court Judge in Judicial District Court 10. 
  • Beth Tanner has been elected to serve as a District Court Judge in Judicial District 10. 

Class of 2007

  • Mary Charles Amerson has joined Ward and Smith’s Wilmington office as a family law attorney.
  • Edward E. Coleman III has been recognized in the 2024 edition of Best Lawyers in America in Insurance Litigation Defendants and Personal Injury Litigation Defendants
  • Tom Murry was elected as an N.C. Court of Appeals judge.
  • Crystal Grimes ‘07 was elected to N.C. District Court Judge District 10E Seat 3.
  • The Honorable James Black ‘07 was re-elected to N.C. District Court Judge District 10F Seat 3.
  • Ryan Bisplinghoff ‘07 will begin a  three-year term on the the Cameron Art Museum Board of Trustees.

Class of 2006

  • John Bowen “Bo” Walker has been selected to the 2024 N.C. Super Lawyers edition for his civil litigation defense practice.  He was also named 2024 “Legal Elite” by Business N.C. magazine in Litigation and named to Best Lawyers in America list 2024 in Construction Litigation, Insurance Litigation and Personal Injury Litigation Defendants.

Class of 2005

  • Jennifer Morris Jones, a partner at Cranfill Sumner LLP, has been awarded a 2022 Comp Laude Award by WorkCompCentral in the Defense Attorney category. She was also named among the Best Lawyers in America 2023, selected for inclusion in the Best Lawyers in America 2024 and listed among listed in the 2025 Best Lawyers in America.
  • Ashley Brathwaite, partner of Ellis & Winters, was accepted into the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel’s 2024 FDCC Ladder Down program.
  • Renee Jordan ‘05 was elected to N.C. District Court Judge District 10C Seat 3.

Class of 2004

  • Edward Schenk III has been named to the 2023 North Carolina Lawyers Weekly Power List for Employment Law. 
  • Bo Thompson joined Gordon Rees Scully & Mansukhani LLP as a partner in the Raleigh office where he will continue his litigation practice.
  • Kathryn Tart has joined Triangle Smart Divorce, practicing primarily in the Wake and Harnett counties as well as surrounding areas.
  • The Honorable Caroline Burnette ‘04 was re-elected to N.C. District Court Judge District 11A Seat 5.

  • Elizabeth Hayes Poremba Overmann has joined Ragsdale Liggett as a partner in the civil litigation group in the Raleigh office and has been selected to Best Lawyers in America 2024 edition for the law practice of Personal Injury Litigation Defendants.  She has been inducted by invitation-only into the Membership of the American Board of Trial Advocates.  She is an experienced civil defense litigator whose practice for the past 20 years has focused on transportation with an emphasis on trucking, personal injury, and catastrophic injuries. 
  • Josh Whitaker’s firm, Whitaker & Hammer, now has seven offices across the state of North Carolina and seven of the firm’s nine attorneys are Campbell Law alumni. He was also named among the 2022 Power List: Real Estate by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly.

  • Karen H. Stiles, a partner in the Charlotte office of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick LLP, was named among the Best Lawyers in America 2023 in Medical Malpractice Law – Defendants. 

Class of 2001

  • Keith Faulkner was appointed as the fourth President of Charleston Southern University on July 26, 2023, and was inaugurated on March 25, 2024.  Previously, Faulkner was the interim Dean of Campbell Law.
  • Dennis Martin was named “Lawyer of the Year” in Asheville for Litigation – Trusts & Estates by Best Lawyers in America 2023.
  • Jennie Crawford joins Edwards Beightol Law and will head up their Camp Lejeune litigation and begin an estate practice.
  • Lama Sinno joins Edwards Beightol Law and is Of Counsel and will continue to base her practice in Johnston County. She will add workers compensation and criminal practices to the growing firm.
  • Kristen L. Beightol has been named among Raleigh’s Best Personal Injury Lawyers by Forbes Advisor.
  • The Honorable Warren McSweeney ‘01 was re-elected to N.C. Superior Court Judge District 29 Seat 2.

  • Gov. Roy Cooper has appointed Scott Conrad as District Court Judge to Judicial District 25 serving Burke, Caldwell and Catawba counties, where he was elected to serve. 
  • Jeremy McKinney has been elected as president of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) for the 2022-2023 term.

Class of 1992

  • John M. Nunnally has been selected to the 2024 N.C. Super Lawyers edition for his construction litigation practice.  This is the 10th consecutive year John has been included in this list.  He was selected to the 2024 edition of Best Lawyers in America for his practice in Commercial Litigation, Construction Litigation and Construction Law. Fewer than 6% of all practicing lawyers in the country are included in this list.

  • Graham F. Gurnee, a prosecutor in Lumberton, has been certified as a criminal law specialist. 
  • Robert “Robby” Hicks was elected to serve as a District Court Judge in District 12C. 
  • Dale Plyler of the law firm of Perry, Bundy, Plyler and Law merged with the law firm of Frank Corigliano in January 2023. The new firm name is Plyler, Long & Corigliano, LLP

  • J. Ronald Jones was named Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year by the Charleston, S.C., County Bar Association.
