Peer Mentor Program

The Campbell Law School Peer Mentor Program aides the law school in fulfilling its mission of creating an intensely personal community. The program, which began during the 2011-12 academic year, matches incoming first-year students with volunteer second- and third-year peer mentors who help them adapt to the Campbell Law community and the law school environment. Peer mentors are heavily involved in assisting the first-year class, beginning with orientation at the start of the academic year.

Program goals

  • Provide first-year students with a compassionate, caring, communal environment
  • Keep students engaged with the law school community
  • Boost morale among students by fostering a positive community
  • Inform students of the services and resources available at the law school and in the local community
  • Encourage involvement in law school organizations and activities within realistic parameters
  • Foster Campbell Law pride
  • Serve as a channel for outward communication and refer students to the appropriate contacts within the Campbell Law community

Program testimonials

“Law school can be an isolating experience, and having people you know you can count on for advice and counsel can make all of the difference. Without my peer mentor group I can honestly say I don’t know if I could have done as well as I did last semester.” – Rebecca Mayhew

“The encouraging, familial atmosphere drew me to Campbell and the peer mentoring program exemplifies those qualities. The program is a great way for the school to demonstrate that the encouragement and friendly demeanor doesn’t end upon acceptance.” – Katie Terry
